Environmental Agency (EA) Approves The Northacre Energy From Waste Project in Wiltshire.

London, Wednesday, 22 June 2022

The Environment Agency (EA) has given its approval for the Northacre energy from waste (EfW) project in Wiltshire to operate.

Northacre Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a joint venture between Bioenergy Infrastructure Group and The Hills Group, will create the £200 million projected project, which is expected to process roughly 243,000 tonnes of trash each year.

The EA has established permission restrictions that the Northacre facility will be obliged to follow – but that will be subject to review and change over time in order to keep up with changing legislation or industry requirements.

"NREL welcomes the EA's decision today to provide the Environmental Permit required to operate the Northacre project," stated Alex Young, Director of Northacre Renewable Energy.

"By lowering landfill's contribution to climate change and enhancing energy security, we are one step closer to addressing the essential need for a sustainable, long-term solution to the region's non-recyclable garbage."
