Greece: A scientific committee has proposed a raft of additional methods to keep Omicron in check.

Athens, Thursday, 23 December 2021

According to a person familiar with the matter, the Scientific Committee advising the government on pandemic management has proposed various additional steps to prevent the spread of the Omicron coronavirus type. Today, Thursday, a final decision on their implementation is expected.

These new regulations call for the cancellation of seasonal public events, such as the one that was recently cancelled in central Athens, the return to empty stadiums for sporting events, the mandatory use of protective masks in both indoor and outdoor areas, and the mandatory use of enhanced protection (either a KN95 mask or two masks) in supermarkets and public transportation.

People who have entered Greece should be required to undertake mandatory testing (rapid or PCR) on the second and fourth days after their arrival, according to the new recommended guidelines.

According to the same source, new measures for the time after New Year's Day are also scheduled to be proposed next week. Early proposals include putting new constraints on business opening hours, limiting the number of people per square foot in small places, and expanding remote work.
