Putin’s Partial Mobilisation Alarms Markets.

New York, Wednesday, 21 September 2022

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, declared a "partial mobilisation" of Ukraine and pledged to conquer occupied territory from the other side of the Atlantic.

He described the actions as "urgent, necessary efforts to safeguard the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Russia" in a televised speech.

Markets were alarmed by the prospect of an expansion of Russia's conflict with Ukraine. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude and Brent crude oil futures saw an increase in price, albeit both eventually ended the day lower.

While the euro fell, the dollar also climbed toward a new record high. Bitcoin (BTC-USD) dipped again below $19,000 in the cryptocurrency markets before rising to end the day marginally higher.
