In the midst of escalating tensions in the region, the US has ordered the relatives of its diplomatic workers in Ukraine to leave.
The State Department has also allowed non-essential personnel to leave and advised US citizens in Ukraine to consider leaving.
According to the statement, there are allegations that Russia is considering major military action against Ukraine.
Russian accusations that it is plotting an invasion of Ukraine have been refuted.
The country has deployed 100,000 troops near Ukraine's border.
It has already grabbed Ukrainian land, such as when it annexed Crimea in 2014 after the country's pro-Moscow president was deposed.
