Jens Stoltenberg, the head of NATO, has been named the new governor of Norway's central bank (Norges Bank).
Stoltenberg was one of 22 people who applied for the job.
"But I know that Norges Bank will be in safe hands under the leadership of Deputy Governor Ida Wolden Bache from 1 March," current governor Oystein Olsein said on Friday, adding: "But I know that Norges Bank will be in safe hands under the leadership of Deputy Governor Ida Wolden Bache from 1 March."
Stoltenberg, 62, graduated from the University of Oslo with a master's degree in economics.
From 1996 to 1997, he was Norway's finance minister, followed by two terms as prime minister, from 2000 to 2001 and 2005 to 2013.
He was appointed NATO's top leader in October 2014, and his term will conclude in September 2022.
