European Markets summary

Europe's equity markets closed the week in the red, with the German DAX down 1.3 percent and the pan-European losing 1.0 percent, hit by expectations of faster US Federal Reserve policy tightening and rising geopolitical tensions in Ukraine.

Most sectors ended lower, with miners leading the way with a 3.3 percent dip, while retailers ended higher after LVMH and H&M reported positive results.

The French luxury goods company rose 3.7 percent as sales growth quickened in the fourth quarter, while H&M, the Swedish fashion retailer, rose 5.1 percent and reported a higher profit than expected for the September-November period.

UniCredit, an Italian bank, also announced higher full-year revenue and underlying profit than projected. On a more positive note, GDP statistics from France, Spain, and Sweden exceeded expectations.

The DAX and the Stoxx 600 both declined 1.8 percent this week, marking the pan-European index's fourth consecutive weekly loss.
