European Markets summary


Concerns over increasing geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe and an impending policy tightening cycle sent shockwaves through equities markets again on Monday, with travel and leisure sectors leading the way lower.


The United States has warned Russia that it may attack its neighbour before the completion of the Beijing Olympics in a week.


Despite this, President Vladimir Putin has consistently denied any plans to invade by holding televised talks with his foreign and defense ministries, emphasizing the need for tensions to be de-escalated.


Individual stocks fell over 16% when Clariant, a Swiss chemicals company, delayed its 2021 results release amid claims that some employees altered accounts in 2020 and 2021 to fulfil financial targets. In Germany, the benchmark DAX 30 index fell more than 2% to 15,100 points.
