Major US stock market indices closed higher Monday to end the first trading day of November at new record high levels.
S&P 500: +0.18% or 9 points to finish at 4,613 after reaching a record high of 4,620.34.
Dow Jones: +0.26% or 94 points to finish at 35,913 after it hit an all-time high of 36,009.74 points during the session.
Nasdaq: +0.63% or 97 points to finish at 15,595, reaching an all-time high of 15,598.95 during the day.
10-year US Treasury yield: up 0.43% to 1.563%
U.S. dollar index: -0.28% to 93.86
The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, rose 0.92% to 16.41.
The price of international benchmark Brent crude was trading at $84.55, up 1%, while the US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was up 0.45% to $83.95.
Precious metals up
Gold: rose 0.6% to $1,794 per ounce
Silver: rose 0.6% to $24.03.
Bitcoin: trading at $61,100 - a 0.7% gain.
A Biden administration report suggested that stablecoins could, in the future, be a more widely accepted means of payment by business and households.
The report impacted the value of the crypto market, which stood close to a record high $2.65 trillion, up 2.2%, according to CoinMarketCap
In a Monday Statement, U.S. Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen said, Stablecoins, digital coins whose price is stabilized to a traditional currency, "are well-designed and subject to appropriate oversight and have the potential to support beneficial payments options”.
European markets
November opens with record highs for European markets.
STOXX 600: +0.71% or 3.36 points to close at 478.87 after hitting a record high of 479.62 points during the session.
FTSE in London: +0.71% or 51 points to close at 7,288, after reaching an all-time high of 7,303.39 points.
DAX 30 in Germany: +0.75% or 117 points to 15,806
CAC 40 in France: +0.92% or 63 points to 6,893
FTSE MIB 30 in Italy: +1.23% or 330 points to close at 27,206 after earlier reaching a record high of 27,303.01 points
IBEX 35 in Spain: +1.38% or 125 points to close at 9,182 – best performer of the day
